Đặng "BigKoro" Ngọc Tài was a very necessary carry for his team in their final chance at securing a ticket to Hanoi, boasting a 7.1 KDA throughout the series and a whopping 17 KDA in Game 5 against Vega Squadron on Tuesday. With much of the praise going to the top side of the map, BigKoro and his support, Nguyễn "Palette" Hải Trung, made their own waves to secure the victory.
Now that Phong Vũ have qualified for groups, BigKoro will get to test his strength against many world class ADCs, but he told Upcomer that he was particularly interested in facing off against Yiliang "Peter" "Doublelift" Peng.
Interview recorded after Phong Vũ Buffalo’s win over Vega, but before they faced Team Liquid in the group stage.
You get to represent your home region in the MSI group stage. How proud are you to win at home, represent your region, and excel the VCS’ growth?
BigKoro: I am very glad and proud that MSI is hosted here in Vietnam, since we are familiar with the food and timezone and everything. We are all in very good shape this year, and we will show the whole world what we can do.
Were you nervous going into game five, or did you know you would win?
Actually, going into game five, we were nervous at the beginning, but we fixed our mistakes so we knew how to establish ourselves. We were also went through the pick ban phase and grabbed our comfort picks. For example, I had Ezreal and [Võ "Naul" Thành Luân] had Zoe. We were confident going into the game, but we did still have some mistakes which is somewhat disappointing.
Yesterday you played very well into Doublelift, but weren’t able to take the series. Now you get a chance at a rematch, what are your thoughts about facing him again?
Actually, in the matchup against Team Liquid and Doublelift, we were a bit sloppy. We had the advantage in the first 15 minutes and we kind of threw it away. So I don’t think our team is that weak, but we need to be more mindful and careful in the upcoming games. So I am confident I can match up and win against Doublelift.
You also get to play against SKT, iG, FW, G2, all very strong teams. How excited are you to play these teams and how confident are you in beating those?
They are really strong, I must admit. But when we go into a best of one against them, we can pull some tricks and find some strategies to defeat them.
And what do you think your chances are to go to the next knockout stage?
In a best of 5, we are really worried because they are all very strong teams, but in the one-off games, we will have those tricks up our sleeve. We are quite confident we are going to Taipei.
Lastly, do you have any words for your fans?
I really appreciate your support and I hope you continue to watch us in MSI and in the VCS as well.
