The Dota 2 Battle Pass for The International 2019 is now available for purchase and download. The release followed hours of speculation after the Dota team teased its impending debut in a tweet yesterday.
This year’s Battle Pass includes a myriad of new content and features, including a new PvP event called Wrath of the Mo’Rokai, a wealth of new skins, new items, and a “Coach’s Challenge” that allows players to earn Battle Points by teaching a team of less-skilled players. Perhaps most notably, Dota 2 now allows players to give each other high fives.
The Battle Pass also includes features intended to improve Dota 2 as a spectator sport, such as the revamped versus screen, which now gives one member of each team a special call-out that celebrates that player’s impressive accomplishments or good stats.
The release of the Battle Pass came after a protracted waiting period that kept thousands of Dota enthusiasts on the edges of their seats. Many fans expected the pass to be released within 24 hours of Valve’s teaser, and when the waiting reached its 25th hour, things got a little heated.
Despite their frustration, however, many fans remained resolute in their desire to purchase the Battle Pass as soon as possible—and with 25% of the sales going directly into the prize pool of The International, this year’s iteration could be one of the most lucrative esports events of all time.
Valve also received some attention for releasing this year’s Battle Pass midway through the MDL Disneyland Paris Major, though the release is unlikely to influence the outcome of the tournament.
The features listed above are only a fraction of the new content available in the TI9 Battle Pass. Check out Valve’s full breakdown of the pass.
