Esports event organization Mars Media announced on social media early today that it will be teaming up with Disneyland Paris to host France’s first homegrown Dota 2 major, confirming a rumor reported by The Esports Observer in early February.
The event, Mars Media’s first large-scale effort outside of China, will be the fourth major of the 2018-2019 Dota 2 season.
This is not the first time Disneyland Paris has shown interest in the growing world of esports. In October, the resort hosted the finale of the League of Legends Open Tour France 2018.
“This new event will further consolidate Disneyland Paris’s position as a go-to destination for live events as well as a major esports partner in Europe,” said the Disneyland Paris Event Group Director Aymeric Magne in a press release.
Running from May 4 to 12, the Paris Dota 2 Major will allow 16 teams to battle it out for the lion’s share of a $1 million prize pool. Additionally, the tournament will serve as a qualifier for The International Dota 2 Championships 2019, with 15,000 Dota Pro Circuit points up for grabs.
“We are looking forward to collaborating with Disneyland Paris which marks our first, but not last, foray into the western esports market,” said Mars Media CEO Zhang Yu.
