After an incredibly strong start, FreeSM took the lead, constantly catching out C9’s players. In particular, they were able to establish lane priority bottom with a series of ganks. This forced C9’s Zachary "Sneaky" Scuderi and Tristan "Zeyzal" Stidam into an awkward spot, leaving them with five deaths between them by the 30 minute mark.
By the same point, TSM’s Søren "Bjergsen" Bjerg’s dominant Zoe had a 10-stack Dark Seal and Jesper "Zven" Svenningsen’s Varus seemed flawless. However, even with their carries popping off, victory would elude them.
At the 37-minute mark, a behind and out-of-position C9 went to take the Elder Dragon, and a baroned-up TSM engaged. Despite a steal by TSM’s Matthew "Akaadian" Higginbotham, C9 cleaned up, coming away with three kills as Eric "Licorice" Ritchie capitalized from a great position with his Aatrox.
From here, things fell apart fast for TSM. Bjergsen found himself caught-out without his team while looking for a greedy kill, dying and eventually taking most of his team with him. After scoring kills on four of TSM’s members, C9 marched down the midlane to secure the win in just under 42-minutes.
From Elder Dragon, Baron Buff, a ~5,000 gold lead, and a downed bot lane inhibitor, TSM lost in just the span of five minutes. This was undoubtedly one of the biggest throws we’ve seen so far this year.
