Esports production company ESL will host the first stage of its major Fortnite event this weekend, the Katowice Royale. The international stage of the event won’t go down until next Friday, March 1, but the action will start early in Katowice, with a Polish-only Solos and Duos tournament headlining the Royale’s first and second days. Poland’s top 100 Fortnite players and influencers will battle for their cut of a $100,000 prize pool.
The stakes will be somewhat higher at next weekend’s international event, which will feature top players such as Timothy “Bizzle” Miller, Dylan “Dmo” Moore, and a full Team Liquid squad including Jake “Poach” Brumleve and Thomas “72hrs” Mulligan facing off for the biggest share of a $500,000 prize pot. A full list of participating competitors can be found on Dexerto.
Two days ago, ESL announced the event’s broadcast talent, which includes Mythbusters star Adam Savage alongside mainstream esports personalities such as Mark “Onset” Hatcher and Marcos “SpeedyGonzales” Gonzalez. The ESL Katowice Royale represents the German company’s first step into the world of Fortnite esports. In the past, ESL has focused its efforts on other first-person shooter titles such as Overwatch and Counter Strike: Global Offensive. ESL is currently hosting CS:GO and Dota 2 championships in Katowice.
ESL Katowice Royale’s Polish-only opening event kicks off Saturday morning at 3 AM PT / 6 AM EST.
