Misfits Gaming plan to promote Aleksi “Hiiva” Kaikkonen, the current head coach of Misfits Premier, to strategic coach of their League of Legends European Championship team, sources told Upcomer on Monday.
Hiiva’s promotion to the main roster comes after a recent string of strong results for Misfits Premier, the organization’s academy team. Misfits Premier compete in the Ligue Française de League of Legends, and Hiiva coached the team to a first place finish in the LFL 2021 Finals, ahead of Karmine Corp and Vitality.Bee. The team also placed first in the LFL 2021 Summer Playoffs.
In contrast, the team’s main team placed fifth in the LEC 2021 Summer Playoffs. Their roster is in flux with many player contracts expiring in 2021 according to the Global Contract Database. Previously, Upcomer reported that Shin “HiRit” Tae-min would re-sign with Misfits for two years.
The only other player currently contracted to Misfits is mid laner Vincent “Vetheo” Berrié, whose contract expires at the end of 2022. However, sources have told Upcomer that Misfits Premier jungler Lucjan “Shlatan” Ahmad will likely stay with the organization and start for the LEC roster. Additionally, Esportmaniacos previously reported that bot laner Matúš “Neon” Jakubčík plans to sign with Misfits.
The free agency period for League of Legends officially opens at 7 p.m. ET on Nov. 15.
