Nelson joined G2 Esports last season as the new Strategic Coach of the European organization. G2 was aiming for everything, with the signing of  Martin “Rekkles” Larsson to try to improve in all possible aspects. The team’s goal was to be a clear candidate for the World Championship that they had been looking for so long, after being one best-of-five away from lifting the coveted trophy.

G2’s season was somewhat weak considering the team’s expectations. They were at the gates of the World Championship, being defeated 3-2 by Fnatic, and placing fourth in the LEC standings. During the off season, G2 made official the departure of players and coaches, among them Nelson, who apparently found his new home in the United Kingdom organization.

Nelson has a long history as a coach in the international League of Legends scene. He has been in different regions, such as the LMS as the coach of HK Attitude, coached Vivo Keyd in Brazil and coached LNG Esports in 2019.

Excel tied Astralis for seventh place with a 7-11 record, putting them just outside the final slot for the LEC summer playoffs. During this off season Excel has been strengthening with the addition of Finn “Finn” WiestÃ¥l as a toplaner, in addition to Nelson. Excel will continue to compete with the two rookies, Mark “Markoon” van Woense and Henk “Advienne” Reijenga, who brought new life to the team in 2021.
