On Sunday, Tyler “Marss” Martins defeated his Panda Global teammate Brian “Cosmos” Kalu to top the Smash Ultimate bracket at Full Bloom 5. The Indiana major was Marss’s second tournament win in as many weeks, following his victory over Nairoby “Nairo” Quezada last weekend at Collision 2019. This was Marss’ first tournament victory as a member of Panda Global after he announced his signing by the organization on Friday.

Though Marss won the tournament without dropping a set, his path to victory was far from easy. He edged out Cosmos in their winner’s semi-final match, pulling off a clutch game-five comeback, and he squeaked out a winner’s final victory against Enrique “Maister” Hernandez Solis when the Mexican player lost his final stock due to an unfortunate input error.

Though Maister ultimately lost to Cosmos in the loser’s final, he wowed the audience by using Mr. Game & Watch—a character many had considered low-tier—to overcome a slew of top players.

Panda Global carried the day in Melee as well, with Zain “Zain” Naghmi defeating Zachary “SFAT” Cordoni in both the winner’s final and grand final. It was a strong performance for SFAT, who earned his second-place trophy by extinguishing an on-fire Johnny “S2J” Kim in winner’s semifinals and the loser’s final.

“Feels good to have effort pay off,” tweeted Zain after the event.
