SicK retires from CSGO to pursue a career in Valorant

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Hunter “SicK” Mims has announced via Twitter that he is retiring from competitive CSGO (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive) in order to pursue a career in Valorant. SicK is not the first CSGO player to do so. He is joining Braxton “swag” Pierce (among others) in the switch from CSGO to Valorant.

Retiring from CSGO at age 21

The 21-year-old decided to make the game switch at an early time in his esports career. In his tweet, he has explained that Counter-Strike has become “incredibly stale and tedious” after 800 maps played and five years. The American also added that it was “inevitable” for him to finally retire and that Valorant‘s timing is simply perfect.

SicK has been avidly playing Valorant as the game is supposedly continuing its closed beta access indefinitely. It will most likely continue until the official release sometime this summer.

SicK’s CSGO resumé

SicK started his career in lower-level teams before moving on to organizations such as Denial eSports, compLexity, Misfits, and Rogue. After he was released from Complexity Gaming in 2019, his last stand-in appearance was fairly recently. He joined Chaos as a stand-in at Flashpoint 1 after the team dropped Owen “smooya” Butterfield due to the coronavirus situation.

Deemed to be an upcoming talent on the CSGO scene, he has been fairly overlooked and left wandering from team to team without accumulating much success or permanent tenure. Riot Games’ newest title enables players such as SicK or swag to switch easily from CSGO due to similar game mechanics. Therefore, it was expected that Valorant may attract potential Counter-Strike pros to its own scene.
