After the big news of Chan-hyung “Fissure” Baek coming out of retirement to sign to the Vancouver Titans, the team hit us with another big signing yesterday. This time, it is one of the most prolific veteran players in the league: support player Jehong “ryujehong” Ryu, formerly of the Seoul Dynasty.

The veteran pickup
Ryujehong is the player you should think of when you think of competitive Overwatch veterans. He was known back in the day for being an amazing player in other first-person shooter games. However, when Overwatch came out, he joined Lunatic-Hai. This powerhouse Korean roster won back-to-back championships in APEX. Ryujehong’s support play was regarded as MVP in both those championship seasons. His Ana play made him stand out, marking him as the best Ana player in the world.
After dominating with Lunatic-Hai, he moved with them to the Overwatch League to play for the Seoul Dynasty. They were regarded as one of the most likely teams to win the first season, but they unfortunately didn’t click. When his contract ended last season, he got to choose where to go. And it seems he liked that season’s finalist, the Vancouver Titans.
Will he get to play?
Unfortunately, some see this signing as almost useless. The Titan’s Jooseok “Twilight” Lee was already one of the best players in the role of Ana. There is also a significant chance that Ryujehong won’t perform on this team as well as he did in the past. If so, he might ride the bench, which would be disappointing. Especially with how much the Titans wanted synergy to be their key factor, this signing doesn’t make much sense. However, with the signing of Fissure and release of Bumper, it seems the Titans want nothing less but the title next year.
Still, there is an argument that Fissure is not much of an upgrade, and the same goes for Ryujehong. But for name value and popularity, these two signings are massive. Adding one of the best main tanks from season one along with the best Ana player in the world before the Overwatch League? If you could, you should. Still, these risky additions might hurt the Titans more than improve them. For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
