South Korean esports organization RunAway has announced its League of Legends roster as it hopes to enter the 2020 Challengers Korea Spring Split. Most well known for the team’s domination in the Korean Overwatch Contenders scene, founder Dae-hoon “Runner” Yoon revealed RunAway would be acquiring a team in the multiplayer online battle arena title in late November.

RunAway in League of Legends
The original report showed Runner stating he would acquire an existing Challengers Korea team on a live stream. However, the six players signed are from a mix of teams. They include top laner Shin “Seraph” Woo-yeon, mid laner Lee “Edge” Ho-seong, AD carry Lim “Moo” Mu-heon, support Jang “Zzus” Joon-soo, along with junglers Kim “Crush” Jun-seo and Kim “Bluff” Hyeon-jun. Kim “Tilly” Tae-hee has joined in a manager and head coach role, with Kim “Sensation” Dong-hyeon as coach.
Some of these players also have not played in the professional scene for a long time. Seraph’s most recent team is Team EnVyUs, which he competed for in the 2017 North American League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) Season. Both Bluff and Edge come from Korean organization MVP, which disbanded after failing to return to the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) following its 2019 relegation.
Entering Challengers Korea
Before joining RunAway, Crush most recently served as a substitute jungler on SANDBOX Gaming in the LCK. Moo last competed for Challengers Korea team Versus Game (VSG), with Zzus on bbq Olivers during the 2019 Spring Split before leaving.
Challengers Korea is comprised of the best eight teams below the LCK level in Korea, where teams have a chance to qualify for each year’s Summer Promotion. By defeating the bottom two teams in the LCK, the organization can then earn a slot in the following year’s LCK season.
This roster doesn’t seem that great when compared to other top Challengers Korea teams like Team Dynamics (ES Sharks), Brion Blade, and VSG. In addition, all teams have to make it through a Promotion round to get into the league. Recent Summer Split Playoffs winner APK Prince defeated the Jin Air Green Wings during the Spring Promotion and have advanced to the 2020 LCK Season. Can RunAway do the same in the future?
