The series of announcements today surrounding the League of Legends roster of Royal Never Give Up (RNG) continues. Earlier, RNG revealed that they have released their two top lane substitutes from the roster. In addition, they have added Lu “Betty” Yu-Hung (盧禹宏) as a substitute for the Marksman role.
The release of the top lane substitutes
The release of the two top lane substitutes, Shek “AmazingJ” Wai Ho (石偉豪) and Xiao “LoveZrr” Zhi (肖志), were not entirely unexpected by the Chinese community. As the current starting top laner for RNG, Xie “Langx” Zhen-Ying (谢镇营) improved his performance drastically in the LPL 2019 Summer season. While RNG has not yet announced whether Langx will start again in the 2020 season, this is currently what many expect.
Rumors are that the top lane player of Invictus Gaming, Kang “TheShy” Seung-lok (강승록), is currently still on the market for the 2020 season. However, the alleged buyout for his contract is in excess of $10 million USD over a three-year period.
The signing of Betty to RNG’s League of Legends roster
Flash Wolves recently announced that they will not compete in the merged SEA tour. The new league combines teams from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. However, following this announcement by the Flash Wolves, all players were released from the roster, effective immediately.
Royal Never Give Up has had a history of fielding several players in the Marksman position. However, with Uzi’s recent performance, it came as a surprise to many that RNG had signed the Marksman of the LMS regions’ Flash Wolves. Lu “Betty” Yu-Hung (盧禹宏) was the star player that led the team to winning the LMS 2019 Spring Playoffs. While it is not likely Betty will see much stage time in the LPL, this could be a great opportunity for him to practice and become a starter for a different team in the 2020 Summer or 2021 season.
