RNG, PSG Talon advance to Rumble stage at MSI 2022

Although RNG and PSG were the clear favorites to advance from Group B at MSI 2022 , it took until the very last game of the double-round robin to confirm both. RNG came into the last match of group play against RED Canids with their spot in the next round already locked up. But for RED Canids, a win would have set up a tiebreaker game against PSG for the second and final spot from Group B.

RNG continued to play loose with an emphasis on fighting. They have showcased this style in all of their games at MSI 2022 so far. With RNG messing around with weird picks like putting Chen “GALA” Wei on Tahm Kench and Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin on a damage-build Gragas, the team went up against the Brazilian reps with their backs against the wall.

With RED Canids top laner Guilherme “Guigo” Ruiz locking in Darius, the team tried their best to swing their way out of the hole they put themselves in. But after a short but fun game, RNG sealed RED Canids’ fate as RNG officially finished their group undefeated.

RED Canids had a promising start to their tournament. Their near-perfect game against PSG has been the only real upset so far at MSI 2022. But since their win against PSG on Day 1, both teams trended in the opposite direction. PSG closed out the group stage with a 3-3 record but were good enough for the second seed. The remaining team in Group B, fastPay Wildcats, finished the group stage at 1-5.

RNG and PSG will now have a week to prepare for the Rumble stage. They will face off against the top two teams from Group C, Evil Geniuses and G2 Esports. They also will play the top two teams in Group A that have not yet been decided. The Rumble stage kicks off on Friday, May 20.
