Riot reveals big changes for 10-year League of Legends anniversary event

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Riot Games recently announced League of Legends’ 10th anniversary with a few surprising game changes right before the start of 2020. Riot has revealed an intent to adjust the current map, saying there is still potential to “magnify” the “variety and mastery.”

What’s their current map like now?

Riot has roughly kept the same concept for Summoner’s Rift throughout the years: bottom, mid, top lane, and an intricate jungle. Players can choose their favorite champion and switch between lanes to help other teammates or to catch enemies off guard. The map’s jungle offers plenty of monsters and dragons for players to gain XP. Riot hopes to add more features as variety is “one of the true foundations of LoL.”

Additionally, Riot understands the current map offers macro-oriented objective trading and rotations. They are looking to take advantage of the opportunities the map offers and pay more attention to in-combat playmaking. This can be a major game-changer as the focus for many average and pro-players has not changed in the past 10 years.

When will they officially announce this?

On Oct. 15 at 6  p.m. PDT, Riot will hold a 10-year livestream celebration event. This will include a new edition of “Riot Pls,” a company feature where Riot developers share new ideas, game modes, updates, and more. In this edition, they’ll look back at the best League of Legends memories and share what the game has in store for pre-season and 2020. If you miss this livestream, they’ll end up rebroadcasting it throughout the day. The livestream schedule is as follows:

  • 10 a.m. – Rioters worldwide kick off a day of celebrating with you in-game and across digital platforms.
  • 2:30 p.m.League and TFT showmatches airing live Twitch and YouTube
  • 5:30 p.m.League 10-Year celebration pre-show hosted by Dash
  • 6 p.m. – Riot Pls: 10th Anniversary Edition

What other updates are coming our way?

Lastly, Riot had recently uploaded an intense teaser trailer, “Dark Passage,” on their Instagram and Facebook pages. This animation confuses fans as many people predict this is the introduction to a possible new champion, Senna. Along with this teaser, Riot Lead Champion Producer “Reav3” shared some upcoming plans and dates on an R/LeagueOfLegends Reddit post: “Plan is to have it out on the 16th, next week. Lots of content in this one, going to be talking about Voli, Fiddle, and 3 New champions.”

In short, It seems as if this season we’ll have plenty to talk, laugh, and cry about as League of Legends is planning to surprise us with plenty of brand new content for their 10th anniversary. So, I ask: When did you start playing? Were you one of the first few on the Rift, or did you recently join in? Either way, we’re all excited for the upcoming changes, and we’ll keep you summoners in the loop.
