Riot Games’ cross-title Spirit Blossom event: what you need to know

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Riot Games has introduced its first cross-game event, and it’s called Spirit Blossom. The “anime-themed” event will include a whole load of skins, missions, cosmetics, and special game modes across Riot’s three titles set in the world of Runeterra. Namely, League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics.

Spirit Blossom: the dates

This new event started July 22, with the release of Patch 10.15 for League of Legends. It is scheduled to finish on August 24. That means exactly a month to complete as many of the new Spirit Bond missions as possible. These missions are designed to be a “narrative experience” that have more depth than the previous event missions for League of Legends. They will award you tokens, which you can spend on in-game cosmetics and champion skins.

Tokens will expire on September 8, 2020. That gives you another two weeks after the event finishes to spend your tokens if you have any leftover.

Spirit Bonds: what are they and what can you get?

Spirit Bonds are missions themed around different champions, most of them from the Ionian faction of the Runeterra universe. They feature fancy animations, video clips, and a giant interactive map—as well as awarding prizes along the way. Just a few bits of loot you can bag yourself include:

  • Blue essence
  • Orange essence
  • Exclusive emotes
  • Gemstones
  • Spirit Blossom Orbs (themed chests)
  • Masterworks chests
  • Hextech key
  • Prestige points

You can play for free and get tokens only, simply by grinding out games. All the prizes in the above list can be bought with tokens, of which you earn about 5 or 10 per game of TfT or League.

As with past events, the fanciest skins will cost about 2000 points. You will however be able to get a Spirit Blossom Orb, which could contain a random Spirit Blossom skin, for 200 tokens. Or you can progress through all the other awards, by buying one of two Spirit Blossom event passes.

You can either get the 1650 RP version, about $15 USD, or the Spirit Blossom Bundle for 2650 RP which is about $25. They both unlock all the Spirit Bond missions you want. However, the Bundle version comes with a free Spirit Blossom Teemo skin.

For those of you with cash to burn, or maybe just the lazy, you can also buy every skin and chroma (plus the champions, if you don’t own them) for the princely price of 12756 RP, which is about $80.

Spirit Blossom skins & other content

These are the skins you can buy in the League of Legends store for RP, or using your tokens. You might even get them in a Spirit Blossom Orb if you’re lucky, so don’t go spending your tokens (or cash) straight away.

  • Spirit Blossom Teemo – 1350 RP
  • Spirit Blossom Lillia – 1350 RP
  • Spirit Blossom Vayne – 1350 RP
  • Spirit Blossom Yasuo- 1350 RP
  • Spirit Blossom Thresh – 1820 RP

Each of the skins will have no less than nine different recolors (known as chromas). Seven of them will be available to purchase for 290 RP. The Emerald chromas however will only be available in loot boxes, like Blossom Orbs or regular chests.

The last chroma is the Night Blossom line, which obviously looks the coolest. However, you’ll only be able to get them with the Spirit Blossom Pass bundle.

You might also be excited to hear about the return of the popular Nexus Blitz mode. This rapid-fire game mode will also have an event-themed map to play on, complete with fall trees and flying blossoms.

Spirit Blossom in Legends of Runeterra

Riot’s online card game will also be seeing some love from the Spirit Blossom event. You can either buy the pass or complete the free quests to earn petals, which can be spent on the following list of rewards shown below:

There will also be a new Lab game mode. This special game type for the Spirit Blossom event sees players pick from a selection of six new Spirit Blossom decks. Each player will also start with 30 health, instead of 20.

So that’s Riot Games’ Spirit Blossom event in a nutshell. We know it’s a lot to digest, and there are even more ward skins, emotes, and icons to discover too.
