League of Legends Championship Series team Cloud9 are signing Kim “Winsome” Dong-keon from the South Korean amateur team Shadow Battlica and T1 Challengers bot laner Kim “Berserker” Min-cheol, according to multiple reports by Dot Esports.
Winsome, who is a North American born player will compete for the starting spot against Jonah “Isles” Rosario, who impressed last season on Cloud9 Academy, the report also said. As he was born in North America, Winsome does not take up a LCS import slot. Berserker, meanwhile, chose C9 over the reported other offers he received in the League of Legends Pro League.
With this new addition, Cloud9’s roster is complete. The team is signing Park “Summit” Woo-tae from Liiv SANDBOX for the top lane, keeping Robert “Blaber” Huang in the jungle and swapping Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami to the mid lane. Fudge also recently signed a four-year contract extension to stay with the organization through 2025.
Cloud9 are also in the market for a head coach, as their former leader Alfonso “mithy” Aguirre Rodríguez will reportedly be going to 100 Thieves. According to the Dot Esports report, Nick “LS” De Cesare — the former Gravity, SUPA HOT CREW and bbq Olivers head coach and current T1 streamer — has been courted to coach the LCS team.
Cloud9 are rebuilding after an exciting 2021 season in the LCS and internationally. They competed at both the Mid-Season Invitational and the 2021 League of Legends World Championship. Winsome will join a Cloud9 side that claimed first in the LCS spring split and the LCS Mid-Season Showdown. The squad slowed down in the summer, however, placing fourth in the regular season and third in the LCS 2021 Championship.
Internationally, Cloud9 missed the knockout stage at MSI, but they made it to the bracket at Worlds 2021. The team’s most recent series saw them lose to Gen.G Esports 0-3 to finish fifth-eighth at Worlds 2021.
