Psyonix giving $300K to support Rocket League community tournaments

Rocket League is making some major leaps when it comes to community-run tournaments. With a $5000 limit for any tournament not officially approved by Psyonix, such events have always been held back, to the chagrin of many ambitious tournament organizers.

But Psyonix is taking steps towards supporting more tournaments, as proven by its latest announcement. The company is throwing in $300,000 USD of its own money to support nearly two months of content.

The latest community-run Rocket League tournament, FusionRL by John “Johnnyboi_i” MacDonald, is not even over. Yet we can already look forward to the next one. Starting June 4, we’ll have several different tournaments all throughout the month and into July. These will range from the regular 3v3 to 1v1 to wacky and laid-back mix-up tournaments such as The Brawl.

Psyonix’s flagship Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) only deals with 3v3, but community events have proven that fans love to see other modes as well. Next month will put the spotlight on players who shine in specific modes such as 1v1. It will also let newcomers have their chance to qualify for tournaments with fairly high stakes against the top of the world.

It’s an awesome gesture by Psyonix, who has not approved a number of third-party Rocket League events in the past. Hopefully, this is the start of many more community tournaments. For now, the events and organizers are as follows:

• CCA Summer Series, by College Carball Association
