International Challenge rules

The April International Challenge will follow the Video Game Championships (VGC) rules. This means that battles will be in the doubles format and Legendary and Mythical Pokémon will not be legal. Certain Gigantamax forms will also be illegal.

The following Gigantamax forms cannot be used:

  • Duraludon
  • Garbodor
  • Copperajah
  • Machamp
  • Gengar

Players can battle up to 15 times per day. Each player gets seven minutes to move, and there is a total of 20 minutes per battle. Players can earn up to 50 Championship Points towards an invite to the 2020 Pokémon World Championships.

How to sign up

Signups for the April International Challenge will be from March 26 at 05:00 UTC to April 9 at 23:59 UTC. To sign up in Pokémon Sword and Shield, you need only open up the VS Menu and click on “Battle Stadium”. Navigate to “Online Competitions”, then to “Search Official Competitions”. After you agree to the terms and conditions, just wait for it to begin!

If there are still unclaimed Battle Stadium Rewards, you will need to claim those before entering. Also, once the signups are over and the tournament begins, players will no longer be able to enter. Players can only enter on one game and must connect a trainer account to earn Championship Points.

Players will get a casual Great Ball Guy in-game shirt just for entering and playing one battle. To claim rewards, go to the Mystery Gift Menu and select “Battle Stadium Rewards”. These rewards will not be available until after the challenge ends and the results are in.

Be sure to get together a good party and sign up before it’s too late. This is a great way to compete in a competitive Pokémon event while all live events are canceled.
