Pokémon Go: The best picks for Master League in the Go Battle League

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

The Master League is now live in Pokémon Go‘s Go Battle League. This means every single Pokémon is legal at any Combat Power (CP). Here are some of the best Pokémon to take to dominate battles and climb the ladder for those sweet rewards.

Recommended Videos

1. Dialga

Quick Attack: Dragon Breath

Charge Attacks: Iron Head/Draco Meteor/Thunder

Dialga has the 17th best attack stat in the game along with an excellent Steel/Dragon typing. Dragon Breath gives it good damage along with charging up its charge moves quickly. Meanwhile, Iron Head and Thunder are generally preferred as its charge attacks for coverage. Dialga is weak to Ground and Fighting-type attacks, so it needs to be wary of popular picks like Groudon, Machamp, and Conkeldurr.

2. Togekiss

Quick Attack: Charm

Charge Attacks: Ancient Power/Flamethrower/Dazzling Gleam

Togekiss appears on yet another tier list and continues to be one of the most dominant Pokémon in both Pokémon Go and Pokémon Sword and Shield. Charm hits opponents like a truck and is a great option against popular Dragon-type Pokémon like Giratina and Garchomp. Togekiss also has solid charge moves that offer it decent coverage. However, it needs to watch out for Rock, Ice, and Steel-type attacks.

3. Giratina (Origin Forme)

Quick Attack: Shadow Claw/Dragon Tail

Charge Attacks: Shadow Ball/Ominous Wind/Dragon Pulse

While Giratina’s Altered Forme was preferred in the Ultra League, its Origin Forme is preferred in the Master League. Shadow Claw, Shadow Ball, and Ominous Wind are its preferred moves, and its great bulk makes it a solid option on any team. Just beware of Dialga and Togekiss, which both outduel it with their preferred sets.

4. Garchomp

Quick Attack: Mud Shot

Charge Attacks: Earthquake/Outrage/Sand Tomb

Garchomp is a solid option against Dialga and Giratina with Shadow Claw, but these matchups heavily depend on the CP of the Pokémon. Garchomp does have good stats across the board, however, and Ground-type attacks are very valuable in the Go Battle League. It has a high CP cap at 3962 and serves as a good option against Steel and Fire-type Pokémon. Garchomp needs to watch out for Ice-type attacks.

5. Snorlax

Quick Attack: Lick

Charge Attacks: Body Slam/Earthquake/Superpower

Snorlax is one of the best options as a bulky pivot. It works well against top tier picks due to its great bulk and Earthquake. Being Normal-type also makes it a good counter to Giratina. Snorlax does need to beware of Machamp and Conkeldurr, however, who will knock it out very quickly.

Other notable mentions include Machamp, Conkeldurr, Heatran, Melmetal, Rhyperior, Groudon, and Kyogre. Remember to take a balanced team with coverage options. You should expect to see a lot of the aforementioned Pokémon, and you’ll want to have a strategy for each of them.
