The Rules

The May International Challenge will follow the latest iteration of the VGC 2020 rules. This means that most Gigantamax forms are legal. Certain Pokémon that were not originally in the Galar National Dex are also legal.

Battles will all be in the Double Battles format, and players will have a set amount of time to take their turn. In addition to this, disconnecting from matches could lead to disqualification from the tournament and a ban from future battles.

How to sign up

To sign up for the May International Tournament, you will need a copy of Pokémon Sword or Shield, along with a Nintendo Switch Online membership. You will also need to connect your Nintendo Account to your Pokémon Club Account to be eligible for further rewards.

Once you are all set up, open your menu, then open the VS menu. Go to the Battle Stadium and click “Online Competitions.” On that menu, click “Search Official Competitions” to sign up. If you haven’t claimed your reward from the April International Challenge, you will need to claim that from the Mystery Gift menu first. You can sign up from now until Thursday, May 21 at 4:59 p.m. PDT.

In addition to winning in-game rewards, the May Invitational will also count towards qualifying for the Pokémon Players Cup. The top players in each region will be able to qualify for the Players Cup if they have their Nintendo Account linked to their Pokémon Club Account. Be sure to put your best team together and get ready to compete!
