It’s no secret that Riot Games went all out promoting its new show, Arcane. It partnered with everyone, quite almost literally. Riot put Jinx in Fortnite (and brought League of Legends to the Epic Store, too); it made Arcane impostors in Among Us; it put Arcane in PUBG: Mobile; there were exclusive Arcane Magic: The Gathering cards.
Riot partnered with non-gaming properties too, featuring Bud Light, Fenty Beauty and Compartés Chocolatier. It put Arcane in all of it own games as well, including Legends of Runeterra, Wild Rift, VALORANT and eventually Teamfight Tactics. And finally, Riot created an immersive theatre event in partnership with Secret Cinema, bringing the Undercity to life.
Just before the last episodes dropped, Riot invited influencers and media from around the globe to enter Runeterra and the Undercity through its Secret Cinema event. Streamers and pros flew from all over the globe to immerse themselves in the lore firsthand. In a studio tucked away in the middle of Los Angeles, Zaun came to life.
Riot and the Secret Cinema crew had us running all over the Undercity, working with Silco to produce more shimmer, with Deckard to gather intelligence on the defiers and take control of the Undercity, with Renni and Finn to take power and with Vi to overthrow the whole damn nation. There were drinks, there were fights and there was a whole lot of deception. (And smoke, there was a lot of smoke.)
They had us solving puzzles, escaping traps, double-crossing and triple-crossing our fearless leaders, doing chemistry and algebra (bring your smart friend), running shimmer and avoiding the hell out of enforcers. But most of all, they had us lost in Runeterra and the Undercity of Arcane for a few exhilarating hours.
There are ten days left for the rest of Secret Cinema’s Arcane: Enter the Undercity event, which has run almost daily since it started the weekend before Thanksgiving. If you live in LA, or if you’re eager enough to fly here, you can find tickets on the website. Otherwise, take a scroll through the Undercity below, with photos of the event taken by Parkes Ousley.
The Secret Cinema Arcane event ends on Dec. 19. Make sure to get your tickets soon, and don’t forget the comfy clothes and hiking boots. There’s no room for flip-flops in the Undercity. Whether you steal shimmer or help create it, you’ll be on your feet.
