Immortals Gaming Club’s rumored bid to purchase OpTic Gaming may soon come to fruition, according to a report from Esports Insider. The negotiations were in progress since the beginning of the month, when Immortals rebranded after picking up $30 million during their Series B fundraising round. Per ESI’s source, the organizations are “very likely” to pull off the deal.

The buyout would bring all of OpTic Gaming’s teams, including OpTic League of Legends and the Houston Outlaws, under the Immortals umbrella. But don’t get jealous, Valiant fans: Overwatch League rules prevent companies from owning multiple franchises, so the Outlaws wouldn’t stay part of Immortals for long. The organization reportedly plans to create a separate holding company in order to administer the Outlaws while Immortals try to sell them to another organization in the months following the OpTic purchase.

OWL conflict notwithstanding, Immortals fans still have plenty of reasons to be excited about this deal: Immortals’ pickup of OpTic’s League team could herald the organization’s first return to the League of Legends Championship Series since Riot Games rejected their franchise bid in November 2017.

A deal with OpTic Gaming would also allow Immortals to expand into Call of Duty, a title that has so far remained untrodden ground for the Los Angeles org. OpTic has a storied history in CoD—including a first-place finish at the CoD World League Las Vegas Open in December—and this deal would immediately make Immortals top-level contenders going into a period of significant growth and change for the Call of Duty World League.
