Overwatch League week 2 for 2020 is in the books, and the Philadelphia Fusion are walking away from their opening weekend with a 2-0 record. Here are some key takeaways from the games in Philly.
The Philadelphia Fusion’s hot start
Philadelphia didn’t play in the first week of the season, so this was their first showing. They opened the weekend on Saturday by defeating the Washington Justice 3-1. These games were close, however, and Philly definitely looked shaky at times. They gave up a close game on Havana after an extremely poor attack round.
They looked a lot better on Sunday in their games against the Florida Mayhem. Their closest match was on Lijiang Tower where they gave up a point. After that, they took Junkjertown 3-2 and convincingly took Blizzard World 3-0. Jae-hyeok “Carpe” Lee looked better than ever, playing mostly McCree.
There was a lot of concern about how Philly would perform this year in the OWL after losing Alberto “neptuNo” González on support and Josh “Eqo” Corona on DPS over the offseason. While the Washington Justice and the Florida Mayhem definitely aren’t at the top of the power rankings, opening their season with a 2-0 record is a good sign of things to come.
Feels good to end the weekend with a 2-0 record!

Houston, we have a problem
The Houston Outlaws looked nothing short of terrible in Overwatch League week 2. They lost 3-0 to the Florida Mayhem, and then they lost 3-0 to the Washington Justice. Houston looked like they had some life against Florida on Havana when they got a defensive hold on Point A, but then they weren’t able to push farther than them during their attack round.
It’s probably safe to say that there aren’t many high expectations for the Outlaws, and this weekend’s games surely didn’t help them out. Houston will have a chance against another weak team, Boston Uprising, next weekend. Hopefully for their sake, they can at least take a few games next time around.
Florida and Washington
The Florida Mayhem and Washington Justice both finished the weekend with 1-1 records from their wins against Houston. These are both teams that are expected to finish towards the bottom of the OWL but were able to find a win to start their season.
On the bright side for both of these teams, they both swept Houston. Washington was able to give Philly a challenge as well, taking a map off of them. The season is still young, and plenty could happen over the next few months, so don’t sleep on teams like Florida and Washington just yet.
And just like that, we've got our first win of #OWL2020!!

The Philadelphia Fusion looked like the best team by far in Overwatch League week 2. While they didn’t have the strongest competition, they showed up to play in their home city. Carpe looks as good as ever, and the rest of the team looks like they are ready to play this season.
