The Overwatch League has partnered up with designer Jeff Staple to create new esports player kits for fans. Each team playing in the 2020 Overwatch League gets its own customized clothing kit, which consist of jerseys, jackets, compression sleeves, hats, and beanies.
Working together with Overwatch League players during the design phrase, Staple made sure that the clothing kits will be comfortable to both competitors and fans. Pin-dot mesh fabric is a feature of these kits, as the material allows for comfort and breathable jerseys.
Staple said he has been a huge fan of the Overwatch League’s accomplishments and has been watching esports for years. When the league reached out to him and asked him to be the designer, he was ecstatic.
“It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring the best of the esports and streetwear worlds together to create something totally unique [and] ground-breaking,” he added. “The kits are not only specifically engineered to perform to players’ specifications, but they’re also designed to look great outside the arena.”
Daniel Cherry, the chief marketing officer at Activision Blizzard Esports, is equally as excited to bring the kits to fans and players. He is excited that the Overwatch League is working with Staple, who brings his own unique style for each competing team.
Cherry also noted how this collaboration is the first of its kind and represents how esports has evolved into a lifestyle. “This is not just a win for the Overwatch League and our fans, but for esports as an industry,” he said.
“Our players’ close partnership with Jeff can be seen and felt in the considered design elements included in the apparel,” he added. As the start of Overwatch League approaches, Cherry said he cannot wait to see the new gear being worn by fans.
The Overwatch League team jerseys will be available for fans to preorder on Jan. 28.
