The Overwatch League kicks off again this weekend, and there are plenty of new players to keep an eye on. Here are five of the most hyped up new players and why they could make an instant impact on the league.

1. WhoRU

Seung-jun “WhoRU” Lee is a Damage player who signed with the New York Excelsior this offseason. He has been a prominent player in the Korean Overwatch scene since 2017 when he won the Overwatch Apex Season 2 Finals MVP.

He joins a New York Excelsior team that finished 22-6 in the 2019 season but lost to the Vancouver Titans in the playoffs. After the departure of damage players Do-Hyeon “Pine” Kim and Yeon-oh “Fl0w3R” Hwang, WhoRU has some big shoes to fill in New York. If he can live up to the hype, he can help the Excelsior stay at the top of the Overwatch League standings in 2020.

2. Sp9rk1e

Yeong-han “Sp9rk1e” Kim is another top Damage prospect from Korean Contenders. He’s now part of a Paris Eternal team that underwent a few major changes over the offseason, including losing George “ShaDowBurn” Gushcha.

Sp9rk1e won three Majors with the Contenders team Element Mystic. He is known for playing projectile heroes such as Doomfist, Pharah, and Hanzo. It will be interesting to see if he can help propel Paris to a few more wins this year.

3. Beast

Adam “Beast” Denton joined the Toronto Defiant this offseason along with several prominent players like Lane “Surefour” Roberts. A lot of eyes will be on Toronto this year after some ambitious additions, and Beast will be one of the biggest uncertainties.

Beast is currently the only Main Tank player on the roster, and he will need to perform well to create space for the new DPS players. If he can do this, Toronto could very well be a top team in the Overwatch League in 2020.

4. Gator

Blake “Gator” Scott was a part of the Atlanta Academy North American Contenders team that went 28-0. The Main Tank player will play for the Atlanta Reign in 2020 and look to continue his success.

The Reign didn’t have a terrible inaugural season, going 16-12, but it also wasn’t enough to propel them to a championship. The Reign will look to their new tanks to help get them over the hump in 2020.

5. Myunbong

The Boston Uprising had a serious overhaul during the offseason. Part of this was signing the Korean Contenders Support player Sang-min “Myunbong” Seo. Myunbong played in Contenders since late 2018 and will get his shot in the Overwatch League in 2020.

The Uprising let go of seven separate players during the offseason and picked up six. Myunbong will have an opportunity to make a name for himself on a roster that consists of a lot of new names.

While the San Francisco Shock appears to be the strongest team coming off of their championship year in 2019, anything can happen. It will be fun to see how these new Overwatch League players will perform on the top stage. Make sure to stick with Daily Esports for more news on them and other Overwatch players.
