This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

The 2020 Overwatch League (OWL) Season has been quite the fiasco so far, given the coronavirus, among other things. This, however, hasn’t stopped Blizzard from seeing it through. Today, the OWL announced their plans for the 2020 playoffs at the end of the season.

The Overwatch League 2020 playoff bracket

The 2020 playoff bracket will look similar to the brackets we saw during the May Melee and the Summer Showdown. There will be a seven-team Asia bracket and a 13-team North America bracket. Every team will qualify for the playoffs, and teams will be seeded according to their regular-season standings.

Teams with the highest seeds will earn byes through the opening round. Other high-seeded teams will get to choose who they play against in early rounds. The low-seeded teams will have to play with these disadvantages. The tournament will start with single-elimination play-in matches and then move to double-elimination rounds where the victorious teams will advance.

After the first two weeks of playoffs, the final two teams from North America and the final two teams from Asia will play one another to take home the cup. To work around the coronavirus, the two North American teams will travel to Asia to face off against the two Asian teams.

The prizes

The OWL has a lofty set of prizes for its winners. The 2020 OWL champions will receive $1.5 million, the runner-up will receive $750,000, the third-place team will get $450,000, and the fourth-place team will receive $350,000. The regional third-place team will also earn $250,000, and any team that makes it to the double-elimination round will get $75,000.

These teams will have a lot to play for, even if they don’t end up winning it all. The playoffs will begin on Thursday, September 3, 2020. You can catch them all live and watch the videos on the official Overwatch League YouTube channel.
