Everything you need to know about MTG Arena’s Mythic Invitational and PAX East

In big Magic: The Gathering news, the first-ever MTG Mythic Invitational will take place, starting on Thursday, March 28th. To prepare for the Mythic Invitational, Wizards of the Coast posted a quick survival guide for those who would like to keep up. The weekend will be full of competition, news, and even War of the Spark spoilers Here’s a quick run-down of what to expect and where to watch!

The Broadcast

Mythic Invitational, Mythic Championship, MTG, MTG Arena

The Format

  • We will see a double elimination bracket played on Magic: The Gathering Arena
  • A new format, called Duo Standard, will be employed:
    • Each player will have 2 different decks, no sideboards, and the games will go as follows.
      • 1st Match – A random selection will decide which player goes first. Each player will be randomly assigned one of their 2 decks.
      • 2nd Match – The player who went second in Match 1 will go first in Match 2. The decks that weren’t used in the first round are used in this match.
      • 3rd Match – Both players will choose which of their two decks to use. A random selection will once again determine which player goes first.

The Schedule (EST)

  • Thursday, March 28th: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Friday, March 29th: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Saturday, March 30th: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • Sunday, March 31st:
    • 10:30 am to 11:15 amWar of the Spark panel at PAX East
    • 11:30 am – Mythic Invitational Finals begin

PAX East War of the Spark Panel

  • The panel will be hosted by Jimmy Wong.
  • Viewers will get to see the War of the Spark trailer
  • Sixteen brand new War of the Spark cards will be spoiled
  • Fans can tune into the Mythic Invitational Finals on the MTG Twitch channel immediately after the panel

Prize Money

There will be $1 million dollars in total prize money up for grabs at the Mythic Invitational. Here’s how it breaks down:

  • 1st place – $250,000
  • 2nd place – $125,000
  • 3rd place – $70,000
  • 4th place – $45,000
  • 5th-16th – $12,500
  • 17th-64th – $7,500
