MSI 2022 Day 5 review: The never-ending nine
Day 5 of the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational featured the conclusion of group stage play for two of the three groups. Group B and C decided which teams would be qualifying for the Rumble stage. Nine games were played, and while a lot of them seemed to drag on with no impact, a lot of exciting and important things happened.
Here are all the best moments from Day 5 of MSI 2022.
Player of the day: G2 caPs
G2 had the pleasure of playing four games on Day 5. And for all of those games, G2 tried to mix a little fun into their drafts.
One way they did that was putting their superstar mid laner Rasmus “caPs” Winther on some playmakers. And oh, did he deliver. With amazing outplays in every single game, caPs styled on the likes of Evil Geniuses and ORDER on Yasuo, Gwen and Sylas which produced some clips worthy of a career highlight reel. Oh, and caPs only died three times total in those three games. Probably because he was doing things like this.

Most memorable moment: the forgettable games
The moment people will remember from Day 5 of MSI 2022 isn’t a play or a funny moment on-stream; it will be the format and how it needs to be changed.
Only two of the nine games on Day 5 had any real impact on the tournament. EG’s first match against ORDER was do-or-die for the Oceania reps. And with EG winning that game, both EG and G2 clinched their spots in the next round. However, all three of those Group C teams still had multiple games left to play with no implications whatsoever. In fact, G2 had to play against ORDER two times with nothing on the line for either team.
As for RNG, the only game with implications came in the very last game of the day between them and RED Canids. If RED Canids won that game, there would have been a tiebreaker for the second seed in Group B. But with only two of the nine games on Day 5 meaning anything, people will remember this as a reason for Riot Games to look at format changes heading into future events.

G2 were straight-up bullies in Group C at MSI 2022. While kicking ORDER while they are down, Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski and G2 took to Twitter with a twist on one of the most popular memes on the internet today. Poor ORDER. They didn’t deserve this.

A lot of talk at MSI 2022 is on Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and Li “Xiaohu” Yuan-Hao as the best mid laners in the world. But caPs is here to show that despite him having a so-so 2022 LEC spring split, he is here to split the conversation of the world’s best. Just look at this incredible outplay. Watch out, RNG and T1.
