Montreal Rebellion reveal Academy roster, Mangachu as two-way

Overwatch League franchise Toronto Defiant has announced its Academy roster for Overwatch Contenders team Montreal Rebellion. They have also announced that DPS Liam “Mangachu” Campbell will serve as a two-way player.

Montreal Rebellion roster

The Montreal Rebellion roster consists of DPS players Mangachu, Lucas “Leaf” Loison, and Tanner “Tanner” Pack; off-tank Pfleger “Shuh” Alban; tank Shayne “Chayne” La Rocque; and supports Park “RoKy” Joo-seong and Arthur “dridro” Szanto.

While these are all new players to the Rebellion, some of them are returning to the organization with previous membership. Chayne competed for the Rebellion briefly during Season 1 of 2019’s Overwatch Contenders before leaving to join North American team Bermuda – a rebrand of Mirage Sport Électronique.

Other members of that Contenders roster like Normunds “sharyk” Faterins, Daniel “Gods” Graeser, and Andreas “Logicx” Berghmans were promoted to the Toronto Defiant instead.

New Overwatch Contenders format

The Montreal Rebellion will have Quentin “Wrath” Sevegner as head coach, with Tanishq “Tanizhq” Sabharwal helping as an analyst and assistant manager. Both DPS Mangachu and support RoKy are on two-way contracts, which leaves only one main support dedicated to the roster. Whether one of them will switch to a flex support role has not been disclosed.

The 2020 Overwatch Contenders season will start with a seeding tournament later this month. This is a new format meant to encourage teams to perform well, with less security for those that don’t because they can get demoted in a shorter amount of time. This way, teams cannot squat on a Contenders spot, even as their team remains dead last the entire season.

Other changes include two sections of Atlantic and Pacific, along with a bi-weekly tournament system with points given for qualification toward a Regional Playoffs event.
