A new leak regarding the ‘DMZ’ mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II surfaced Wednesday from a reputable source within the community. The DMZ has been somewhat confirmed by Activision; they’ve only announced that a third mode alongside Warzone and MWII exists and that it will be unlike any current Call of Duty experience. Beyond that, the mode has not been showcased or even discussed at length as of yet. However, the leak that surfaced today reveals when the mode could be announced and then when it might release to the world.
DMZ mode in Modern Warfare II leaked release date
The leaker who published the report on the DMZ mode earlier today is @RalphsValve, a trusted source in the Call of Duty community. They posted an entire report about when fans can expect DMZ to be announced and then released as well as other smaller details.

As Ralph states, DMZ is supposedly inspired by the game Escape From Tarkov. The report goes on to say that the mode is described as “open-world,” where players fight NPCs and other players for valuable loot on certain maps. These maps will reportedly be featured on the Warzone 2.0 map as well. The mode will also contain a story that carries over from the Campaign, including the same characters.
According to the report, the mode has been under development for four years and has received special attention as of late due to the two-year period that Infinity Ward has to pump out content for Modern Warfare II. The next main series COD title won’t release until 2024. While nothing has been concretely said about DMZ, there will supposedly be a reveal in August.
Following that, DMZ could see a release sometime in 2023. The game would release in beta and as a free-to-play experience. It’s unclear if DMZ will be separate from Modern Warfare II or it’s own game altogether. The likely outcome, though, is that MWII, Warzone 2.0, and DMZ are all bundled together at first and then the games could go their own ways eventually.
For now, fans can hold their breath until August for any additional news or the official reveal for DMZ.
