After a short start to their off-season, this Overwatch League team is improving quickly. The Boston Uprising have signed Korean main tank Ji-won “Stand1” Seo, formerly of the Shanghai Dragons. After a long contenders career and a year in the league, he is looking to rebound for Boston.
This one ought to get you on your feet. Stand up & cheer for our newest teammate, @Stand1! #BostonUp

Stand1’s path to Boston
Despite only being in the league for last season, Stand1 is an experienced main tank. Playing for both Korean and North American Contenders teams, he’s shown flexibility in inside and outside of the game. Most recently, he played as a stand in for Team Envy and a full time player for Gladiators Legion. After an admirable performance in contenders, he was picked up by the Shanghai Dragons as a backup main tank to Eui-Seok “Fearless” Lee.
However, it was clear the team coordination was worse with Stand1 than with Fearless. Stand1 was released at the end of the season, but Shanghai also traded Fearless, their other main tank, away. But, it seems Boston is giving Stand1 another chance to perform at the Overwatch League level. He would be a good pickup no matter what for his flexibility alone. On Boston’s team, however, he just fits.
Boston’s future
From their recent signings and re-signings, it’s clear that the Uprising are adding Korean players to this mixed roster. With the signings of Jin-ui “im37” Hong and now Stand1, a new Korean core is going to merge with their English-speaking tanks. Plus, with Sang-min “Myunb0ng” Seo re-signing to the team, the Korean part of the team is shaping to be strong. Their new Korean head coach is clearly rebuilding this team with a clear focus. One thing that won’t be controversial to say is that Boston won’t be the worst team in the league next season if they keep making moves like this. However, only time will tell, but Stand1 is a good pickup for the rebuilding team.
