Forspoken has been delayed from its original release date of May 25, Luminous Productions announced on Monday.
“We have made the decision to move the release date of Forspoken to October 11, 2022,” the studio said. “Our vision for this exciting new IP is to deliver a game world and hero that gamers across the globe will want to experience for years to come, so getting it right is extremely important to us. To that end, during the next few months, we will focus all of our efforts on polishing the game and can’t wait for you to experience Frey’s journey this fall.”

Forspoken was originally revealed in March of 2021, though it was known before then as the mysterious Project Athia. The game features Frey, a woman from our world, who is thrown into a fantasy land named Athia. With a talking bracelet on her arm and flashy, magical powers, she attempts to overthrow a group of evil matriarchs, the Tantas.
Forspoken delay does not come as a surprise
The delay brings Forspoken to fans a few months later than expected, and it is one of many delayed games during the pandemic.
While there were no indicators of this delay, apart from one leak, some of the preview footage was visibly lacking in quality. As there were some hiccups in frame rate and with the launch of a new IP, it is no wonder that Luminous Productions and Entertainment company Square Enix want the release to go as smoothly as possible. With more and more stories coming out about crunch and unfinished games, a little more time in the oven for Forspoken is going to benefit everyone involved.
Forspoken is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC in October of 2022.
