The Pokémon World Championships will be held outside of North America for the first time. The very best players will gather at the ExCeL London Convention Center to compete in TCG, VGC, and Pokkén Tournament, and Pokémon GO events will occur as well. Also, a Pokémon Center store will be established at the event. This will allow spectators to purchase merchandise — including exclusive merchandise made for the London 2020 event. The action-packed event is set to run from Aug. 14 to Aug. 16, as a helpful tweet from Pokémon Twitter reminds us.

How to compete
A full schedule of events taking place across the year leading up to the World Championships is available on the Pokémon website. The top players worldwide will compete in order to earn enough Championship points to be invited to the final event of the year.
With further details still to be announced surrounding the event, it is not too late to compete in events. In fact, any player with a Trainer Club account and an understanding of the Play! Pokémon program can compete. For Pokémon TCG, players are required to equip themselves with their own 60-card deck. This has to match the Standard or Expanded format. On Jan. 4, events with Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon on Nintendo 3DS shifted out. Moving forward, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be the games used in VGC.
Although spectator passes are likely to be available closer to the date, hosting the Pokémon World Championships in London will mean it will make it significantly popular. To keep up with further Pokémon and esports coverage, stay with Daily Esports.
