The live viewership ban at the LEC Spring Split

As explained in the blog announcing the news, the ban includes all remaining weeks of the 2020 Spring Split. It is important to note that the remainder of the 2020 Spring Split includes the finals. The finals were previously moved from Budapest, Hungary, to the Berlin studios on March 6. The reason for the move, prior, was due to the development of the COVID-19 novel coronavirus.

Now that the coronavirus is officially named a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), countries are taking further action. In response to this, Riot Games canceled the LCS earlier today. This cancellation announcement of the LEC followed only hours later.

A refund for ticket holders of the LEC events

Riot Games confirmed that all current ticket holders for any of the remaining days of the LEC are going to be contacted shortly about a full refund. The refund includes tickets to the previously mentioned Spring Split finals.

The situation regarding Origen

One of the LEC teams, Origen, is based this year out of Denmark. The team is in a unique situation, as they previously flew in the roster each weekend to the LEC. The team did this while practicing from their Copenhagen training facility during the week. However, now that Denmark is placing travel restrictions, an issue for Origen arises for the remainder of the split.

Because of this, while the LEC and Origen work out a suitable solution, Origen is allowed to play this weekend’s matches online from Copenhagen. What the team’s plans are for the upcoming weeks is yet to be announced.
