It’s been a while since the Riot Games development team changed up the icons to some in-game items. The team hinted at some upcoming changes for the 2021 pre-season, which includes polishing some popular items. In a recent pre-season update, lead gameplay designer Mark “Riot Scruffy” Yetter shared Riot’s plans to revisit the entire item system from top to bottom.

As a result of the beginning stages of this whole interface update, he updated fans with some new icons. These include Rabadon’s Deathcap, Bramble Vest, and B.F. Sword. The icons look vastly different with a completely different art style. Twitter users weren’t super impressed over the changes, as some offered some constructive criticism through their own edits.

Updating League items

Besides some icon updates, Riot hopes to upgrade the entire shop with a new look. The shop hasn’t been updated very much since Season One, and it needs some improvement for new and veteran players. Along with changing the outer appearance of the shop, there are plans to completely overhaul its overall complex system. There are way too many items in the game for the store to properly get vital information across in a clear way. Riot wants to fix this to make gameplay and itemization easier and smoother for everyone.

Overall, it seems that League of Legends fans aren’t too crazy over the proposed art changes, but that’s why the team is always looking for feedback. Having a polished, clean interface for items is important as it will help keep focus during a game and provide support to new players. Besides new artwork, the team hopes to provide better recommendations that will show players which items offer effective counters.
