We have all been there. As a newcomer to League of Legends, you purchase skins or champions you don’t really want or need. And naturally, Riot Games has a solution for this issue in three refund tokens, given to players when they create their account. However, the refund tokens, for most players, are a double-edged sword. Many players simply wasted their refund tokens on champions bought with Blue Essence (or IP at the time) without thinking how valuable they were.
While Riot didn’t give much attention to these tokens in the past seasons, they finally made it possible to get an additional refund token, should you need it. Here’s how to grab yours today.
How can I obtain my refund token?
Obtaining a League of Legends refund token in 2020 is very simple. All you have to do is visit the Riot Games Support site, where they offer the token. Once there, you simply log in to your account and the site checks how many tokens you currently have. If you don’t have all of them, meaning you have less than three, a free refund token will be assigned to your account. A prompt showing how many tokens you now have will appear once the token is assigned to your account.
That’s really all there is to it! Now you are free to — more wisely than last time — spend your tokens in the store. However, from now on, Riot will be giving a free refund token every year, so you’ll get your chance to redeem yourself next season. If you aren’t sure how to use them and what purchases they can be used on, we have got you covered too!
How and on which purchases can I use my tokens?
Using your refund token in the League of Legends store is just as easy as obtaining one. You simply visit the store in your client and click the little Account icon in the top right corner. In the account site, select Purchase History in the menu on the left. A list of any items purchased in the store or obtained from Hextech Crafting in the last 90 days will be shown. If an item is eligible for a refund, you will be able to click Refund under the Action section. And there you go — you have officially used your new refund token.
Unfortunately, the terms by which you can refund an item are far more complicated. To quickly sum it up, your purchase can’t be older than 90 days, you’ll get back as much RP as you spent on the item (even if it was on sale at the time of purchase), and you can only refund certain item types, such as champions, skins, emotes, etc. You also can’t refund items you obtained from Hextech Crafting. For a more detailed overview of the rules, you should visit Riot’s support site.
What did you refund with your first tokens? We’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
