As the preseason for Season 13 chugs along, more game updates are coming to League of Legends. In the new Patch 12.23 update, many buffs and nerfs are coming to various champions across the land of Runeterra while the ARAM game mode is seeing some major adjustments for the first time in a long time. On top of that, a bunch of new cosmetic skins are coming to the game ahead of the holiday season.
This patch will be the last one of the year, as Riot Games will take the latter half of the month off for the upcoming holiday season. As a result, League of Legends Patch 12.23 will be a month long. Because of that, players will want to pay extra attention to the big changes in this patch as they will be playing it for a while. Here is the League of Legends Patch Notes 12.23 breakdown which releases on Wednesday, December 7.
ARAM Updates
In the new League of Legends Patch 12.23 update, the fan-favorite ARAM game mode is finally getting some major changes in what seems like years. With more and more players flocking to this game mode as their primary way to casually play League of Legends, Riot has started to do champion balance adjustments exclusively for ARAM over the last couple of years; however, the mode itself hasn’t had any new mechanics or changes until now.
The first big change is the addition of Frostgates. One of the most common complaints in ARAM is having to run back into the lane after being killed, which takes forever in a mode all about skirmishes. Frostgates get players back into the action immediately; they teleport champions directly to your outermost tower anytime you are in base.
There are a bunch of other new changes too like Tower Rubble, in which new terrain is added to the game whenever a tower is destroyed. In addition, the Battle Boost system is being updated and so is S-Rank Chest visibility so players will always know which champions they need to play to get those sweet Hextech Chests.
Champion updates
There are a ton of new champion balance updates coming in this patch as the new season draws closer. Among the 18 champions getting touched up in the new update, there are a few that are getting way more changes than others.
One of those champions is Dr. Mundo, who is getting changes to every single one of his abilities as well as his base stats. Riot claims that Dr. Mundo isn’t the unkillable late-game bruiser he’s designed to be, so he is getting buffs to his scaling to fulfill that fantasy.
Another champion getting all of its abilities changed is Tahm Kench. Riot recognized the initial preseason changes killed off the Ability Power builds for TK, so they are giving the frog some love by increasing the AP scaling on nearly all of his moves while also giving his Thick Skin ability a buff in the tank department.
New Skins
And finally, there are all the new skins coming to the in-game shop in Patch 12.23. The Winterblessed skin line is making its debut with the introduction of six new skins one for each of the following characters.
- Winterblessed Diana
- Winterblessed Warwick (with a prestige variant option as well)
- Winterblessed Swain
- Winterblessed Zoe
- Winterblessed Shaco
- Winterblessed Zilean
These skins and a new mythic skin, Ashen Graveknight Mordekaiser, will be available for purchase starting on Thursday, December 8.
