LCS: TSM pull off massive comeback to defeat first place Cloud9

TSM have defeated Cloud9 in a massive comeback game, to finish LCS week five with a win. C9’s defeat to TSM marks their first pair of consecutive losses in the LCS, as they also lost to Team Liquid yesterday. C9 demolished TSM in their previous meeting and looked to repeat the same feat again. However, TSM had other plans saved for the latter part of the game.

C9 began this game exceptionally well. TSM’s jungler, Mingyi “Spica” Lu died twice before six minutes passed, and C9 opened a gold gap of more than 2,000. C9 also took the first dragon and turret, under nine minutes. However, TSM’s picks on Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami and Robert “Blaber” Huang got them back into the game. The game slowly slipped away from C9’s hands after this, as TSM closed the gold gap and leveled the dragon count. TSM finally took control of the game with a huge baron fight steal. They killed all members of Cloud9 except Fudge in the baron take.

Once TSM took control of the mid-game, they never let C9 find a way back into the match. After Lawrence “Lost” Sze Yuy Hui got a Penta kill, they marched on to take down the enemy’s Nexus in 34 minutes. TSM’s macro play in mid and late games is becoming quite impressive. They often fall behind in games and overturn the deficits through proper team fight execution.

C9’s loss makes the Mid-Season Showdown more exciting to anticipate. While they may finish top of the Spring Split standings, they are still not clear favorites to win the Showdown. The 2021 LCS Spring Split is definitely more competitive than last year. C9 has several challengers like TSM, TL, Dignitas, Evil Genuises, and even 100 Thieves.

Cloud9 face a revitalized CLG at 6 p.m. ET on Friday, March 12. Then, TSM returns to the Rift on Saturday, March 13 at 4 p.m. ET against a struggling Immortals.
