Two of the four League of Legends Pro League Worlds 2022 teams have already been decided and when it comes to who will be fighting for the other two slots, those teams have already been decided as well.
The 2022 LPL Regional Finals, which kicks off on Friday, September 2, will have four teams fighting for two spots at Worlds 2022. Here is a breakdown detailing the format, which teams are involved as well as the schedule and how to watch.
LPL Regional Finals format
Unlike other regions like the League Championship Series and the League European Championship, the LPL still operates on a Championship Point system. This means when it comes to deciding who qualifies for Worlds, it’s the teams with the highest amount of CP that was accumulated through both the spring and summer splits. The only exception is the winner of the 2022 LPL summer finals, that team will automatically qualify as the LPL one seed regardless of prior championship points. At the end of the playoffs, the team with the most CP will also qualify automatically to Worlds 2022.
The two remaining seeds are decided through a mini tournament with the four remaining teams with the highest CP total from the 2022 year. These four teams will be split into two sides of a bracket. The top two teams will match up against each other in the upper bracket while the bottom two teams will play in an elimination match.
The winner of the upper bracket match between the top two teams will automatically qualify for Worlds 2022 as the LPL third seed. But the loser will have redemption as they will play the winner of the elimination match to determine the final spot at Worlds 2022.
Teams
Based on CP, these are the four teams playing in the 2022 LPL Regional Finals.
The team with the third highest amount of CP and because of that, the top seed in the 2022 LPL Regional Finals will be Royal Never Give Up. After winning the 2022 LPL Spring split, RNG had enough CP to clinch a Regional Finals spot without even needing to show up for the 2022 LPL summer playoffs.
In fourth place is the reigning Worlds 2021 champions, Edward Gaming. After a poor spring split by their own standards, EDG showed up in the summer and finished third which granted them enough CP to barely edge out the fifth-place team.
That fifth-place team is Victory Five. Despite being in first place in both the spring and summer splits, V5 struggled in playoffs but did enough to earn themselves a spot in the 2022 LPL Regional Finals.
And finally in the last spot is LNG Esports. Similar to EDG, LNG had a resurgence in the summer split after falling flat in the spring. They were rewarded with 60 CP for their fourth-place summer finish which safely gave them the final spot in the 2022 LPL Regional Finals.
Schedule and how to watch
The first match of the 2022 LPL Regional Finals kicks off on Friday, September 2 with the RNG versus EDG match which will decide the third LPL team who will qualify for Worlds 2022. On Saturday, V5 takes on LNG and the winner of the match will face the loser of the first match for the last Worlds 2022 spot on Sunday.
All matches will be broadcast live on the LPL Twitch channel.
