With the dust settled and the 2022 League of Legends Champions Korea summer split has finally crowned Gen.G the champion with their win over T1, it’s time to decide the final teams that will be representing Korea at Worlds 2022. The four best teams not named Gen.G or T1 will fight for two final spots in the 2022 LCK Regional Finals starting on Thursday, September 1.
Here is a breakdown detailing the format, which teams are involved as well as the schedule and how to watch.
Unlike other regions like the League Championship Series and the League European Championship, the LCK still operates on a Championship Point system. This means when it comes to deciding who qualifies for Worlds, it’s the teams with the highest amount of CP that was accumulated through both the spring and summer splits.
The only exception is the winner of the 2022 LCK summer finals, that team will automatically qualify as the LCK one seed regardless of prior championship points. This year that team was Gen.G. The second seed is determined by the most CP outside of the winner as they also automatically qualify for Worlds 2022. That team was T1.
The two remaining seeds are decided through a mini tournament with the four remaining teams with the highest CP total from the 2022 year. These four teams will be split into two sides of a bracket. The top two teams will match up against each other in the upper bracket while the bottom two teams will play in an elimination match.
The winner of the upper bracket match between the top two teams will automatically qualify for Worlds 2022 as the LCK third seed. But the loser will have redemption as they will play the winner of the elimination match to determine the final spot at Worlds 2022.
Based on CP, these are the four teams playing in the 2022 LCK Regional Finals.
DWG KIA finished the 2022 year third in CP with a third-place finish in the 2022 LCK spring split and a fourth-place finish in the 2022 LCK summer playoffs. They will enter the 2022 LCK Regional Finals as the top seed.
Liiv SANDBOX will be their opponent in the upper bracket as they finished the 2022 year fourth in CP with a strong third-place finish in the 2022 LCK summer playoffs. They acquired no points through the spring split but since points are weighted more in the summer, their third-place finish was good enough for the second seed in the 2022 LCK Regional Finals.
In the elimination match, the first team is KT Rolster. Despite not making playoffs in the 2022 LCK spring split, KT Rolster managed to qualify as the fifth seed in the 2022 LCK Summer playoffs and after a fifth-place finish in the playoffs, they find themselves as the fifth place team in CP and with it, the third seed in the 2022 LCK Regional Finals.
They will be playing against DRX in the elimination match to see who will advance to fight the loser of DK and LSB for the final Worlds 2022 spot. DRX finished fifth in the 2022 LCK spring split and sixth in the 2022 LCK summer split to barely squeeze their way into the 2022 LCK Regional Finals.
2022 LCK Regional Finals schedule and how to watch
