The Akimbo attachment is one of the most iconic in Call of Duty history, and it has returned in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer.
For players unaware, the Akimbo attachment involves players holding two of the same weapon instead of one. This gives players double the firepower, but negates their ability to aim down sights. It’s a fair trade-off, but in the past, Akimbo weapons have been taken advantage of by players. In MW2, though, developer Infinity Ward has kept the Akimbo attachment specific to the pistol class only.
This is great news for players who were tired of getting killed by Akimbo shotguns in Vanguard. However, the unlock process for Akimbo has become somewhat confusing due to the new Gunsmith system in Modern Warfare 2. If players are trying to figure out how to unlock this specific attachment, then they’ve come to the right place.
Unlocking Akimbo Pistol Attachment in Modern Warfare 2
The Akimbo pistol attachment continues to be an effective choice as the franchise transitions into season 2. Unlike other attachments in MW2, Akimbo needs to be separately unlocked by most of the pistols. There is one exception to this rule, though, being that the X12 and X13 Auto belong to the same Weapon Platform. This means that once players unlock the attachment for one of those pistols, it’s unlocked for the other.
Players need to get each pistol to a certain level to unlock the Akimbo attachment for it. Those required levels are listed below.
- P890 – Level 26
- .50 GS – Level 17
- Basilisk – Level 28
- X12 – Level 19
- X13 Auto – Must use the X12 to unlock Akimbo
Once players reach the required level for the pistols, they will unlock the Akimbo attachment for that pistol. Equipping Akimbo does limit what players can put on their guns, though. For example, players won’t be able to equip a certain attachment if they’re using Akimbo.
Players also won’t be able to ADS when they use Akimbo. Instead, players must hip-fire only. They’ll also need to fire each weapon separately, which means players need to press two buttons to fire both weapons at the same time. If players want to test out Akimbo in Modern Warfare 2, they can do so by making a Private Match and making an Akimbo pistol loadout.
