How to enable Loudness Equalization on PC in Call of Duty

Over the past year, one PC setting has taken the Call of Duty world by storm, and it’s not something you can even enable in-game. Instead, it’s a Windows setting called Loudness Equalization, and it gives you a massive advantage when playing on PC.

Loudness Equalization is described in Windows as “using understanding of human hearing to reduce perceived volume differences.” If that doesn’t make much sense to you, join the club.

To break it down, though, Loudness Equalization increases certain sounds through your speakers or headphones. It also reduces other sounds that it deems not as crucial.

Enabling Loudness Equalization on PC in Call of Duty

The process to enable Loudness Equalization is actually not difficult at all, so just follow the steps below to turn it on.

• On your Windows taskbar, look at the far right of it and right-click on the volume icon
• You will see a new menu appear. Click on “Sounds” from this menu
• In the Sounds pop-up, click “Playback” and then scroll down until you see your speakers or headphones you use for Call of Duty
• Right-click on the device and then click “Properties”
• In Properties, go to the “Enhancements” tab and press the check next to Loudness Equalization
• Once that’s done, hit “Apply” and go back to the Sounds menu
• Here, make sure your desired speakers or headphones are set as the “Default Device”
• The last step is to go into the Call of Duty settings and make sure your audio device is the same speakers or headphones you just enabled Loudness Equalization for

With all of that done, you should have Loudness Equalization enabled for your primary audio device in Call of Duty.

Having Loudness Equalization will change up how you hear certain noises in-game. For example, you will now hear footsteps much louder while your gunshots will be at a lower volume. Loudness Equalization basically makes it so all of the important noises are amplified while the less-important ones are reduced in your audio device.
