Most of the details of next week’s 2019 Hearthstone Championship Tour Winter Championships have been made public by the game’s developer. The Winter Championships, which begin next Thursday, is the last seasonal championship event before Hearthstone esports shifts to a significantly updated mode involving a new format, a multitude of online qualifiers, and over $4,000,000 in prize money. The current model will not be retired, however, until after the Hearthstone World Championship in April.
The 2019 HCT Winter Championships will feature 16 competitors evenly split among Hearthstone’s four competitive regions, with nine newcomers and seven returning players. These entrants will be split into four groups of four, from which the top player of each will be selected to move on to the $1,000,000 World Championship. Additionally, Winter Championships competitors will vie for their share of a $250,000 prize pool.
