In an episode of The Four Heads podcast, Alex “Goldenboy” Mendez states that Overwatch 2 is releasing at the end of this year. This is in line with other speculation about the game’s release date.
In The Four Heads podcast, Goldenboy is discussing Riot Games’ upcoming shooter, Valorant, with Brennon “BrenCasts” Hook, Jonathan “Reinforce” Larsson and Josh “Sideshow” Wilkinson. Towards the end of the episode, they discuss how Valorant is beating the market by releasing in the summer, at which point Goldenboy states that Overwatch 2 is coming at the end of the year.
Other Overwatch 2 leaks
Goldenboy’s statement is consistent with other possible Overwatch 2 leaks. There was a tweet by Playstation Brazil that said that the game would release in 2020. There was a similar leak by the Vancouver Titans’ Twitter account. Both of these tweets were deleted shortly after, but reporters were able to get wind of them beforehand.
Activision Blizzard initially unveiled Overwatch 2 at Blizzcon in 2019. Since then, there has been very little official information released about the title. We know that it’s a co-op PvE take on Overwatch that will come with a new engine, new maps, new heroes, and new gameplay mechanics. There will also be free changes to Overwatch when the game drops.
Goldenboy
For those who don’t know, Goldenboy has been an Overwatch League host since its inaugural season. Prior to that, he hosted the Overwatch Open and the Overwatch World Cup in 2016, along with Contenders and the World Cup in 2017.
Goldenboy has been a part of the competitive Overwatch scene since the very beginning. As such, there is a good possibility that he would know about the release of Overwatch 2.
