G2, Fnatic, Misfits, and Origen now lead the LEC in a four-way tie for first

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

The 2020 LEC Spring Split has passed the halfway mark, with 10 games already played. Before the start of the season, many fans predicted that G2 Esports would stand in pole position and dominate the scene. However, things have not exactly worked out that way for the kings of Europe. Instead, they now hold the top position with three other teams. Fnatic, Misfits, and Origen have matched G2’s pace so far in the LEC, keeping the league intense.

How the LEC ended in a four-way tie after week five

The tie between these four LEC teams comes as a shock to many in the League community given how the season initially started. G2 won all their games up to week three with a 6-0 record. Misfits, on the other hand, started their LEC Spring Split with a double defeat in week one.

However, they bounced back with a win against SK Gaming and won seven games in a row. Misfits came back in week two and played like a new team that the LEC had never seen. Their win against G2 in week four handed the team their first loss in the Spring Split. After that, G2 lost a second game in week four against Schalke, who had not won a single series all season. Mad Lions added a third defeat to G2’s books as the Spanish team continued their impressive debut.

Fnatic’s place in this four-way leaders tie comes as no shock given the team’s history. Although the London esports giants did not start well on day one, they have made amends for that. Fnatic has dominantly won most matches, only losing to Origen, Mad Lion, and G2 so far. The team also made amends for their loss against Origen at the beginning of the season with a 30-minute win. Fnatic’s Gabriel “Bwipo” Rau and Martin “Rekkles” Larrson have been instrumental to their team’s success.

Origen is the last team in this four-way tie, and their mastery of the LoL macro game has helped them. However, Origen seemed to shift from that path in their loss against Fnatic. They have also lost to G2 and Misfits.

G2 Fnatic Misfits Origen four-way LEC tie

G2 enters the next week with a series against bottom-placed SK Gaming and Vitality. Fnatic must battle Misfits and Schalke, while Misfit’s other match pits them against SK Gaming. Meanwhile, Origen has matchups against Schalke and Rogue.

Taking a look at all these matchups, G2 is in a more favorable position to break free from the tie and lead the pack. However, Fnatic’s dominance cannot be overlooked. With Fnatic’s match against Misfits, the four-way tie will end in this next week – but a three-way tie may still be in the cards.
