G2 Esports overran 100 Thieves (100T) in a best-of-three match today at IEM Katowice 2020. IEM Katowice, taking place in Poland, began today, Feb. 24, and runs through Mar. 1. Games are streamed on Twitch on ESL’s official channel. The two CSGO teams matched up on Mirage and Dust2 for the opening game of Group B, and G2 dominated 100T, finishing their series at 2-0.
Spanish organization G2 now moves forward to the upper bracket semi-finals. However, 100 Thieves isn’t out of the running just yet. Their next match is against TYLOO in round one of the lower bracket for an opportunity at the LB semi-finals.
Map one: Mirage
Starting off the series, 100 Thieves picked Mirage as map one. This choice came as a surprise because, historically, they don’t have the most reliable performance on Mirage. However, they may have chosen it due to it being G2’s worst map. They have a 48.2% win rate, which is their lowest, just below Overpass.
Despite G2’s previous, less-than-stellar performances on Mirage, the Spanish team destroyed their opponents. 100T managed to secure only three rounds the entire game; the final score was 3-16.
The match stats show that every member of G2 had a positive KD difference. We can infer 100T rarely won 1v1s, gunfights, and had a painful time trading kills. This is further supported by the round history, which shows G2 wiped the team eleven rounds without 100T planting or having the opportunity to defuse the bomb.
Map two: Dust2
Compared to 100T, who chose their worst map, G2 decided to play their best map, Dust2. Dust2 is one of 100T’s worst maps; they have a meager win rate at 25%. At the end of the match, 100T won merely two rounds with a final scoreline of 2-16.
While G2 as a team had impressive stats, one player stands out just a bit above the rest. Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač, finished with almost a perfect rating of 1.95, a beastly ADR of 122.9, and 22-11-3 KDA. Nemanja “nexa” Isaković had a stunning ace on Mirage that won the team their first round on Mirage.
