Fortnite’s ninth season is finally upon us, bringing with it a hefty v9.00 patch. If you don’t have time to read through the official patch notes, keep reading for a breakdown of the most notable updates.
Sure to alter the Fortnite metagame, the biggest change in this patch was Epic Games’ decision to vault the Pump Shotgun. The weapon was a popular choice for many Fortnite players, including streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins.

Epic’s official announcement provided a bit more context for their decision to remove the beloved weapon: “We want the beginning of each Season to feel fresh and allow for a new gameplay experience along with all the new Seasonal content...when it comes to Pump Shotguns, they stand out significantly: They currently account for over 26 percent of eliminations in default playlists.”
In Epic’s defense, the v9.00 update provides Pump Shotgun fans with a serviceable alternative in the Combat Shotgun, which appears to be geared towards faster, lower-damage plays. The Tactical Shotgun also received a damage boost in this update.
Pump Shotty aside, the patch has brought in a wealth of new content, including futuristic versions of preexisting locations such as “Neo Tilted” and the “Mega Mall.” Epic has also introduced a new method of transportation called “Slipstreams”—basically giant Dyson fans that launch players without damaging them, allowing them to zip around the island.
And of course, the v9.00 patch also includes a new Battle Pass, which appears to be based around a futuristic theme. Log on to experience the new skins firsthand—and to see what a Pump Shotgun-less meta looks like for yourself.
