Today, League of Legends team FC Schalke 04 revealed a new bot laner for its academy team, Schalke Evolution. The team has signed Matúš “Neon” Jakubčík for this role. He will compete alongside the academy team in the Prime League, filling the hole left by Nihat “Innaxe” Aliev. Innaxe joined the main roster of Schalke after Konstantinos “Forg1ven” Tzortziou left the team mid-season.
Neon’s past with League of Legends
The Slovakian bot laner has quite the history with the competitive League of Legends scene. Throughout the years, he has competed on various top teams in the regional leagues. The majority of his time was spent on the roster of Esuba, playing in various open tournaments. Some of Neon and Esuba’s notable victories include their performances at the RoG Masters events, hosted in the Czech Republic.
Besides his time substituting for Origen and competing alongside Esuba, Neon had the chance to play alongside the Unicorns of Love in 2018. This was Neon’s first opportunity to prove himself on the League of Legends European Championship (LEC) stage.
Neon would leave the team to try again alongside the Misfits Premier roster in January of 2019. The team succeeded and won the European Masters Spring Main event. That roster later had the chance to compete as Misfits Gaming, after Misfits’ entire LEC roster was replaced following poor performances.

However, on Dec. 13, 2019, Riot suspended Neon for his behavior in the European Solo Queue ladder. The suspension lasted for a total of 10 weeks, ending Feb. 21. This could still have an effect on the player even now, though. When the FC Schalke 04 twitter account announced the signing earlier today, they noted that Riot has yet to approve the signing.
For Riot Games to approve Neon back into the league, he has to prove that he has reformed his behavior. Showing this means there should have been no toxic behavior in the time since his suspension. Toxic behavior could be shown through in-game chat messages or by intentionally losing games. If such things were found, the signing could be taken off the table.
