FACEIT has identified the main priority for B-Site is to shift attention away from the league itself. They hope to, instead, amplify the visibility of teams and talent. Furthermore, they are concerned with developing a healthy CSGO ecosystem conducive to community growth.
“We believe B-Site will help create a healthy and sustainable ecosystem and ultimately FACEIT will take a step back to ensure teams, players and talent are the focus,” said FACEIT in an official statement.
In regards to B-Site, FACEIT’s role is to act as “league operator and content producer,” allowing teams to take center stage. Building an engaging show and durable business around the teams is FACEIT’s goal. In their statement, they mention an issue with ECS was the league “didn’t go far enough in providing a path to sustainability for Teams and Players suitable for today’s ecosystem.” They also commented on the need for teams to be supported financially in some capacity in order for growth to be sustainable: “Teams and players need to have a more central position and be provided with stronger financial benefits to make the scene sustainable.”
Interestingly, critics of the new EPL format suggested relegating professional teams hinders the opportunity for teams to grow. Perhaps, FACEIT is alluding B-Site offers more for semi-professional teams than ESL can in hopes of attracting ESL players.
FACEIT officials stated: “We have always focused on providing a path to pro and this is why B-Site will be an open league.” Additonally, “[B-Site] will be open, inclusive and provide special support to grassroots talent. B-Site will provide open slots so up and coming teams can be a part of the league.”
Global LAN Qualifier dates
FACEIT also announced dates for the upcoming Global LAN Qualifier. The tournament will take place March 3-5 in Los Angeles, California at their in-house studio. The date conflicts with South American closed Minor qualifiers.
CSGO teams that qualify for B-Site are offered $100,000. What’s more is B-Site has promised to award teams without an organization a $25,000 monthly stipend.
