After a grueling week of CSGO‘s StarSeries i-League Season 8, Evil Geniuses (EG) have come out on top following a two-map battle with the Swedish Fnatic. EG’s Ethan “Ethan” Arnold also received the HLTV and Betway MVP of the tournament after his team’s victory.
Evil Geniuses come out on top once again
EG have proven themselves an immensely dangerous team once more after this performance in Belek, Turkey. The team’s first impressive victory was at ESL One New York in late September, where the Americans toppled Astralis 3-1 in the finals.
Despite being knocked down to the lower bracket in the initial stage of StarSeries, EG were quick to recover and moved onto the upper bracket of the playoffs. The Americans dismantled Renegades 2-0 before beating Fnatic in the upper bracket final 2-1. The Grand Finale saw Fnatic return from the lower bracket after dealing with FURIA in the consolidation final. Unfortunately for them, Evil Geniuses seemed prepared and ready as ever to deal with the Swedes. The best-of-three final ended up only needing two maps before crowning the winner.
While the EG team was phenomenal in general, Fnatic struggled, as two of their star players were extremely underwhelming. Robin “flusha” Rönnquist and especially Jesper “JW” Wecksell did not have the best of performances, with JW only finding 25 frags across the two maps, Dust2 and Mirage. If we had seen a much stronger form from the duo, the final may have gone in a different direction.

The MVP award goes to Ethan
Ethan played a pivotal role in getting his team to the final. He also had a phenomenal performance in the final itself. The 19-year-old got an impressive rating 2.0 of 1.24 in the tournament, bringing it close to the likes of Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev or the prodigy Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut. We’ll have to wait and see if he can replicate this type of performance in future LAN events.
